There is something very satisfying about digging your fingers into the earth. I have but the modest balcony planters, but I love the time of year when I get to plant them and get the herbs and flowers going.

The top one isn't actually my plot, rather a vacant plot near by. I just enjoyed the solitary poppies, hence the photo. Our plot is enormous though, this year much of it will remain grass, which is great for BarBs and relaxing!

I totally agree, I love the 'getting my hands dirty' bit, the endless scrubbing of fingernails isn't such fun though.
