Feeling like a zombie through lack of sleep may not be the best way to start your working week but that's the price you pay for an action packed weekend. And although today it has been agonizingly difficult to keep my head from hitting the desk every five minutes in fits of slumber, it was all worth it.Saturday I went to a gathering at a friends house in the country, we barbequed in the rain, had a scalelectrics championship, drank thai cocktails out of a bucket and finished the evening off with the first night's camping of the year.
Sunday was a long battle with a hangover, luckily won in time to be picked up and taken to Nottingham for a gig at the Rescue Rooms. The Brian Jonestown Massacre were playing. My ability to review it at this time is somewhat impaired by my sleepy head, all I can say is that they fucking blew everybody away.
After spending half an hour looking at somebodies back (just as the gig starts the tallest person there is guaranteed to push in front of me, it happens every time) I decided to risk the chance of violence (BJM are renouned for starting arguments/fights with their audience) and slip to the front, where I had an excellent view and the sound was fantastic. I really should have got some good photos from here but as you can see they aren't great and I didn't manage to get Anton (the genius behind the BJM) in them at all. I did get a very blurry shot of Joel though who is their estranged but seemingly reunited tambourine player and resident joker. (See bottom photo.) Great night, great band, great venue what more can I say. Actually nothing because my brain has gone passed thinking and my fingers are too weak to type. I need sleep.

Hi Moonpie,
You can sleep it all off during the week- nothing beats a great weekend. I am also cursed by the tall people syndrome at concerts, never fails.
Did the UK not celebrate the Queen's official birthday this weekend? We did out here in the colonies, but I am suspecting that you have a different date to do so, since you were working yesterday.
It's almost Friday! (not really, but...)

Near the end of the week, MP, and there are two things I could have known earlier (because of you). What is a scalelectrics championship? And who-B the BJM? And why-B you B going to their gigs? Sounds like I'm worrying as only a mother can. Probably I'm feeling old and mushy. Good thing it's the weekend. There's a tornado lookout here to boot. Ugh.

Hi Anne Marie,
Just about recovered from last weekend, luckily just in time for this one!
We have a bank holiday Monday this week, not sure if it has anything to do with the queen though, possibly, I quess. My patriotism only stretches as far as morris dancing and The Who!
(Talking of which I'm currently trying to get hold of some tickets for Leed University, if anybody comes across any tickets on sale could they let me know, got to get in there quick!)
Gina,
Scalelectrics I've just discovered should be spelt Scalextric, sorry. This may make more sense to you but if not, it's a toy car racing game on tracks. I'm absolutely rubbish at it so I nominated myself as my teams mascot, my novelty value being that I was wearing two pair of wellies (one inside the other) and was the bearer of the bucket of Thai cocktail. We lost anyhow.
BJM or the Brian Jonestown Massacre
are a wonderful rock/indie band and the stars of the music documentary film 'Dig'. They were so good live, the day after the gig we booked tickets to see them again at the end of there tour. You can hear them here;
http://www.brianjonestownmassacre.com/ if you fancy it!
I learn't about verite cinema after a visit to your blog yesterday, so ta for that! The only film in the list given by wikipedia that I have seen is 'Don't Look Back' by DA Pennebaker but it's one of my favourites. Funnily enough, I would say that 'Dig' would probably fall under the genre too.
Good luck with your tornado Gina, blimey that's scary! We have risks of floods here, not great when you live 4ft away from a river but I'm yet to see it reach the path so think we'll be okay.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Hmmm...memorial day over here, bank holiday over there. I am pretty sure you enjoyed yours; but I can't believe mine is over with.

It goes so fast I know. My weekend was fairly uneventful but I did manage to get down the allotment, what with the rain it's been quite difficult. It had very nearly disapeared under all the weeds but after a good few hours weeding the beds at least were clear and ready for planting. So weather permitting there should be some real action down there this weekend!
Must post something soon, apologies for the slack blogging!

Hi Moonpie,
I've been there, trying to get through the rest of the week after staying up all weekend.
I haven't had the experience of tall people blocking my view at concerts, however, I did experience something similar to that. I was at a KoRn concert with my best friend and I was sitting next to a guy who looked like he didn't want to be there. He was sitting the whole time everyone was standing. Here's the worst part; at the end of the performance, their drummer David Silveria usually stands at the front of the stage and throws his drumsticks out to the audience for them to catch. When he was doing that, I wanted to get a look at him because he is so hot, but that is when that guy sitting next to me decides to get up from his seat and walk in front of me! My view was blocked! I wanted to kick that guys ass!

No problem on slack posting. And the rain, it's falling here too! The weather in fact here is very English except (major exception) for the humidity.
The wet soil makes it easier to tug up the weeds, tho, don't forget. Come the middle of June, you won't recognize the allotment for other plentiful reasons.

Thanks for letting me know about the TBWHM site coming back on line. Very kind and MUCH appreciated.... (even though I have reservations about the way it impacts on some people).

Thank you Dove for delivering the good and interesting news.
And it's nice to see a waxing moon. Seems we have enjoyed the same weather! I'm pooped from swimming laps (Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun!). I have a tiredness I haven't known for eons. Feels good.

Thank you, Moonpie, for the heads up about Pete. I reciprocated the good deed by passing along the message to the bloggers I know from TBWHM. You beat me to a few of them, and it's nice to see all the familiar faces back on his blog.
And you can all come and dance with Pete at my wedding, too, you know. :)
Cheers,

Hi all!
I'm glad you all got the message in time to get into the first 100.
Geeeez, the excitment is building!
It's my birthday on the 14th of this month and what a fab present! I'm also still hoping to get to see The Who at Leeds Uni on the 17th for my birthday celebrations, I've heard rumours that tickets go on sale tommorrow so keep your collective fingers crossed for me.
