This is Blythe, she was originally made in the 70's, but thought of as a little scary and didn't quite take off. Due to the fact that not many were made she became very collectable and when the photographer of these pictures Gina Garan started taking photos of her doll in various settings on her travels and exhibited her work her popularity grew. A Japanese company then started to make her again, in small limited edition runs. You've got to be a very lucky girl to get one of these for Christmas though. They are rather expensive. The sort of money that personally I'd have concerns over spending on a doll but god, I want one! One day in some drunken ebay frenzy I may just get carried away and buy one. I do hint like crazy to my boyfriend every birthday but he knows I'm just messing really, like when I ask for a pony, although I do want one, a Blythe and a pony. We've gone and gotten his niece into Blythe too, which I feel a little guilty for, now her poor mother gets hassled every present giving opportunity. I'd be jealous as hell if she got one, not really, well actually maybe a little! These pictures are taken from the www.thisisblythe.com website where they are offered up as postcards. I love Gina Garans photos, great outfits and settings, she really brings her to life. So anyway that was Blythe. Hope everyone is experiencing a pleasant weekend. Cheers!

Now I'm addicted, at least to the postcards. Funky Blythe. Love her.
Yes the weekend, fast but sunny here, has been all it could crack up to be. Saw Capote again. I couldn't imagine, for an Oscar, who else had it in the bag. Did you know the film was shot in 39 days? WOw. The work ethic puts me to shame. Which reminds me!

PS: I wish for you to have a pony.

That's a very creepy doll. Playing with her might warp your personality!

I love dolls with BIG heads, and little bodies.
You are way too young to know about Little Kiddles, they were popular in the 60's. Big heads, tiny bodies, with little pot bellies. They were only about 1 inch big. Mattel made them. They came in like little eggs, and were scented. I recently tried a perfume at the cosmetic counter that smelled, I mean exactly, like one of these Little Kiddle dolls! ;)

Gina,
Glad you liked Blythe, she's pretty cool. I will definately catch 'Capote', not sure if it's been released yet over here and my local cimema only shows real drivel so will probably have to wait till it comes to DVD, but it sounds great. Thanks for the pony wishes! :)
Lzygrl,
Thanks for the link, it's a really great site, I love the flatsy dolls too, they're so kitsch. I have something simular to the little kiddle dolls, scented but inside in a sort of belljar instead of an egg.
Ticharu,
If you think Blythes scary go to;

Hi there!
Blythes scary? No way. They look absolutely cool. And, may I say, have plenty more character than any barbie. If I had kids I'd encourage them to get into Blythes rather than barbies which really give unhealthy images of femininity to growing girls, I think.

I agree totally Elwisty, I once heard that if Barbie's proportions were real that she wouldn't be able to walk due to the size of her bust. Mind you, saying that, I don't think you'd be able to walk with a head the size of Blythe, but you know the point I'm trying to make. :)
