Wow all is well with the world this morning. I was woken a few hours ago with a storm beating against my window, I managed get a few more hours sleep then when I opened my curtains this morning it was light, first time this year! The waning half moon was reflecting in the river, and there was a large rabbit on the other side of the bank scratching for food. The blackbirds have started to sing again, the sky is blue and the sun is shining. May be getting a little over excited here, but is that the faint footsteps of spring I can hear?
I managed to exorcise my bordom yesterday with a good talk with my friends about our allotment plans, praying for good weather tommorow, I can't wait to get digging. Started trying to decide what to grow, I'll have to narrow it down somewhat because at the moment I want to grow everything. Got to force myself into work this morning, I always have difficulty on days like today. Better go!

Hi Moonpie,

I think I'd rather take a storm right now than this frozenness: nearly -30 C here so everythingis frozen still.

Thanks for the info on which Morrissey album I Have Forgiven Jesus is from! I have to check the album, to see what I think about it.

Very nice prose. I like "faint footsteps of spring". We've had temps more like in Tahiti tho probably Tahiti in winter. Meaning, weird. But we're in for a storm. Snow, snow, snow. Will make Bea Bea happy and I'll hunker down. I'm very glad it's the weekend.

Feeling better. Thanks for the well-wishes. I work at a University, too.

I can't wait to hear about your garden. My uncle really knew a lot about gardening, so as it occurs to me I'll try to add a little of his knowledge to yours.

happy weekend!

Blimey! -30C !!! And I thought I was beeing brave facing temperatures of -5C, last week in Prague. How do you cope with such extreme temperatures, can you leave the house or do your feet freeze to the pavement and get stuck? I would have to hibernate for the winter.
Do check out the album, I'm sure you won't be disapointed!

Gina,
Any gardening knowledge you can pass my way would be extremely appreciated. I'm just off down there this morning for some serious toiling!

Moonpie,
We had 12C yesterday after a ridiculously warm week (for January in Canada, that is!) and today it snowed once again. The birds were trying to mate all week (and so were some of our students!) and now they've gone back inside very confused by all of this. The whole planet seems out of whack, weather wise.

Cheers,
AM

How was the toiling?

By the way, you never need to plant too many or even several (just a few is all) tomato plants. A cousin of mine, not knowing, planted and harvested a life time's supply (sixteen plantings!). The silly billy.

I do know, from my uncle, whatever herbs you plant these will flavor the soil. Minty cucumbers are not unusual, in other words. A basil(ed) tomato, now, that would be nice, except that basil likes sandy soil. Mint will grow and grow and grow anywhere. Nice for summer tea.

I'm all toiled out and absolutely pooped! Mmmmmm basiled tomatoes and corriadered carrots, sounds fab! Cucumbers however I'll have to give a miss, they are the one fruit/veg I can't stand, can't even bear cucumber contaminated salad.Yuk, even thinking of it makes me squirm!
