With Anne Marie and Gina's imminent Who gigs on my mind I figured this blog could do with a little WHO WHO WHO WHO!
Last week whilst having a miserable day at work I couldn't resist buying The Radio Times even though I was fully aware of Mick's intention of buying one, hence the photo.
I love the new album, as does everyone I've played it to. My Dad is a newly converted Who fan, being particularly fond of 'Man in the Purple Dress.' He's obviously passionately in agreement with the sentiment, singing along with a look of indignation and his efforts to annotate the lyrics using the art of mime had my mum and I in fits of giggles. Later he proceeded to do a windmill although if you didn't know that's what he was doing I don't think you'd have guessed! Funny, my Dad, not sure if he realises it though!
Of all the songs on the new album 'God speaks of Marty Robbins' is my ultimate favourite. I just adore it, can't get enough of it, I think it's just a perfect song, just perfect! 'You stand by me' is Micky's favourite, he believes it to be 'the best Who song since Quadrophenia'. That's quite something coming from Mick, he's not easily pleased to say the least.
So what are your opinions on the new album? Any favourites? Would love to know what you've all made of it.
I better get myself home, it's incredibly windy tonight, not looking forward to the cycle but it can't be put off any longer.

God I love Marty Robbins, from the time he'd DADGAD'd it on ITA. He said it was probably too late for the album and I sent pleading comments to Rach's blog, and learned to play it on the guitar - therefore, at least in my mind, it's my fault that it is on the album ;-)

I like Tea & Theater, how it plays out live, and I love the song, but I don't particulary like how it is mixed on the album.

My Wife Marina agrees with Mick, You Stand By Me. But either ways, we are all soppy gits aren't we, Ahhhhhhhh, bless us.

Hi Moonpie,
I really like the new CD as well, and one of the best parts of the NA leg of the tour, as compared to seeing them in Berlin, is that we got to hear so much more of it. The good reception it's getting means they might just keep them all in their setlist for the summer shows in the UK and Europe, so you'll get the chance too!

Hi Paul,
Well I'm jolly glad you did twist Pete's arm! Not sure I could have waited another 24 years for it to be on the next album. I agree about Tea and Theatre, they performed it at the roundhouse which was on the TV over here and it sounded great, it has a poignancy with regard to Pete and Roger's relationship, even though it's about Leila and Josh.

Hello Anne Marie,
I hope they do keep playing the new songs. I'd love to hear Marty Robbins live. I hope I can get to see them again in the New Year. I'm planning to go to Glastonbury but hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in a real venue in between. I really want to experience the backdrop screens, it looks great. Glad you had a great night when you saw them.

Oooh it's nearly the weekend, have a great one everyone!

For the last few weeks, when I put on the album, I go straight to the Wire & Glass mini-opera. It has longevity! Really liking it – those first three pieces are particularly cracker and there is fine drumming to boot.

Hope you and Mick have a great weekend too!
