Happy Ostara! We just had a marvelous sunset so I thought I'd share it, it was followed by a tiny slither of moon descending towards the dusky skyline, the new moon in the arms of the old moon. It's bitterly cold outside, trying to snow. But the evening are drawing out, thank goodness. I can take a bit of cold, it's just too much dark I don't like.
I've brought a new plastic greenhouse (my last one blew away) and I'm going to start planting just as soon as this cold snap is over. The allotment is coming along lovely. It's great having a shed up there, we have a stove for teas and bacon cobs, in fact it's rather difficult to not get too comfy in it, it's only the cold that keeps you on your toes, a little digging and you're soon toasty.
Michael and I have entered this competition . It's to make a video for an Explosions in the Sky song called 'Welcome Ghosts', which is their new single. We are number nine. I think the idea is that the three with the most votes get shown to the band and they choose a winner, but we've only just posted ours and there have been some up for weeks, getting votes, I'm not sure how they are going to account for that. To be honest it doesn't really matter I just enjoyed the brief, it was a good challenge, especially getting to the front of the gig I filmed them at, it was quite an ordeal. I can usually manage quite well cause being short people don't really mind, but some bloke saw what I was doing and started to follow, he was massive and really pissing people off, so I had to shake him before I could proceed. When I finally got to the front I managed to film one song, then sat back to enjoy he rest of the gig just as they finished. What I did get was good but it's been so cut up you can hardly notice it. The rest was filmed on the way home and at the allotment, cut with older clips. We still have no video camera so we were having to make do with the digital camera, it has a video function, so the quality is a bit shot here and there and streaming for the web only makes matters worse, but anyway enough excuses, this is our entry;

Explosions In The Sky - Welcome, Ghosts (Video Contest 09)

Don't forget to vote for us, although I think you are only able to do so if you have a myspace account (I haven't so have been unable to vote for myself, which I would have done, several times :)

I watched a couple of times last night. Lots of familiar muses. I love the rabbit. But how do you vote? I have a myspace account (just for leaving messages) but I cannot see how you do it. Is it that you just have to leave a comment, preferrably in German (or was it Dutch), on your choice of video? Where do I put my "Das as goode!" ?

To be honest Paul I can't work it out either. It doesn't really make much sense does it. Once you're signed in I think it is possible to rate the film, whiether this is the same as a vote I'm not too sure. As we posted ours much later than everyone else, due to them extending the deadline, we have a fair bit of catching up to do if it is and I'm thinking it might already be too late but I'll email them and see what they say. Thanks for trying anyway!

I really like the video. Very nice indeed, especially the shots through the structure of the old sheds.

I don't have a video camera either, but if I save the final movie at 1.0 Mbps I find I get a good result, PLUS it's fast enough for internet viewing. All my vlogs were done like that.

No, don't ask me what Mbps means. I've no idea what I'm talking about! But in Windows Movie Maker I ignore the "video for the web" settings and choose the one for LAN - which is higher quality than Broadband but stil nowhere near DVD.

You've got a Mac I believe. But still worth saving to a higher setting and then checking it out on YouTube to see if it streams smoothly.

Good video.

Dang'it, I cannot view :-(. But I so so SO want you to win because I know you're the best. I know it. Your stills are the bomb. You're damn excellent. I'd love for you to pursue photography and more, the moving images. I would.

Probably I can view from work and I'll try too, not until Monday, to untangle the voting how-to.

German or no!

Thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Ian. And Gina, thanks for the faith in my photography skills! But I should say 'our' skills because much of it is Mick's or a collaboration.
We'd love to pursue it further in some way but where and how I'm just not sure. But whatever, it's fun and it's nice to know it's appreciated, so thanks!
(I still haven't worked out the voting business but not to worry.)
